Sometimes a photographer gets a double whammy – in a good way! Sharon was the quintessential bride-to-be; delicately beautiful, poised, elegant. And the setting was the gorgeous Furman University. Delectable

Derrick’s family has a real intrinsic, down-home musical inclination on his dad’s side. I never got to hear his father play this old guitar of his, but I did hear him sing, as well as his brother, Tim, both of whom had booming, deep, voices. Jack’s guitar doesn’t get much use these days, but it is still cherished.
Another beautiful sunrise Derrick snapped. What more can I say? Something this amazing doens’t really need words

Ok, sometimes I get these weird ideas. I don’t know what made me think of it this morning, but I found myself remembering a painting by Andrew Wyeth, “Christina’s World.” Do you guys know it? To me, it evokes feelings of conflict; I get the sense that this is a young girl feeling simultaneously trapped in the middle of nowhere, & tenderly affectionate of her home. Anyhoo, somehow that train of thought derailed into thinking it would be fun to sort of re-create the painting. But, alas, I was all alone. So I resorted to Horsey. He’s been around for the grandkids for years, & today he graciously submitted to being my “Christina”. No, it isn’t exactly alike, but it was fun & got me out of my box…or maybe out of my mind
Here’s the original with my copy-cat below.
This Palmetto Bank really has fallen on hard times. Or, rather, hard times have fallen on it , in the form of bulldozers. Derrick caught some of the demolition action.
Hands down, my favorite thing to find on the beach when hunting for seashells is sand dollars. Our usual vacation spot is in the Navarre/Ft. Walton/Destin, Florida area, & we have found some beauts there; I have three brown sand dollars we found once while snorkeling in a frame with a photo of us (maybe that’s not as exciting to other people as it was to me! ). I have a small bowl on our breakfast nook table with some shells & a few sand dollars, this being one of them. Any morning I want to forget I’m sitting in Belton, SC eating eggs – I look at my shells.

Our 6 year old grandson, Soren, spent the night with us last night, & since it was rainy & cold & breezy this morning, Derrick entertained him (& himself) by letting Soren show off his hula hoop skills….I think I see a little John Travolta thrown in there, too.
My mom gave our 6 yr old grandson, Soren, a dulcimer she hadn’t played in a long time. He was instantly smitten. He brought it with him today when he came to spend the night with us, & he pulled out some papers that you place on the dulcimer under the strings, & you plink the stings where the notes are placed on the paper – instant song. Soren srote his own song & made a note-paper for it; the name of the song is “Rings of Uranus”……..das right. My grandson the astronomer.
This is the back of a construction company Derrick was at today. I believe this is what’s used when they are making blacktop.
Today I went to Spartanburg to meet a potential wedding client, so of course, I had my eyes open for something to take my shot of for the day. Passed an insurance company & there on their lawn sat my subject. I stopped in on my way back & went in to introduce myself & ask permission to shoot (some photographers live by a “Don’t ask permission, ask forgiveness,” philosophy but I like to ask first, shoot later
). The company is Tom Chester’s State Farm & I love this vintage fire engine they use for advertising. The sign on the front reads, “Call Us Before The Fire”.
When I entered the kitchen this morning at 7am, Derrick had been gone already for maybe 10 or 15 minutes; there on the counter sat a memory card with a Post It note: “Got my shot for today!” Man, I thought, what did he get at this time of day? When I uploaded it, I thought one word: “Wow.”
