This was a wedding we’d been waiting & waiting for – after shooting Amber & Jonathan’s funtastic engagement session last fall, we knew it was going to be a tee total blast, & they did not disappoint! There were several firsts for us – Amber wanted to do a Parent’s First Look, a switch from the usual bride/groom First Look; Jonathan had written a beautiful song for his bride, & he grabbed his guitar & gave a heartfelt performance during the ceremony; & then there was the Harlem Shake during the reception, during which the bride wore a Darth Vader mask & the groom a top hat….enjoy! In 2011 I had the pleasure of working with this electric, affectionate couple for a couple session. Let me tell you, they were every photographer’s dream – so in love, I didn’t have to do any coaching for PDA, lol! I wish every couple could know what a long way that goes in getting the kind of images most couple want…maybe I could get them to give a seminar??? Anyway, they are now happily married & I am sure, engaging in more PDA than ever!

Don’t know the exact year on this photo, but I think I was about 4 so that would be circa 1966. (I’d say Mom’s beehive validates that!) I look at this & still can’t figure out why my dad’s nickname in high school was “Bull” (mom says it was his football prowess, but I wonder…) That’s my older brother, Chris, Mom is keeping in place with her gentle touch

July 3, 1981 found me camped out in front of the Oakland Coliseum Stadium in Oakland, CA in a long line of dedicated rockers, waiting for the Day On The Green concert featuring Loverboy, Ozzy Osbourne, Heart, Blue Oyster Cult & Pat Travers. Needless to say, this 19 yr old little gal from Athens, GA was a teeny bit culture-shocked, lol!

My older brother, Chris, has helped us mark off quite a few projects on our list of home improvements this week – he built some picture ledge display shelves in our dining room, built two bookshelves, & replaced some rotten spindles on our front porch railing. So when I came across this picutre of us when we were both toddlers, I thought it was fitting that I give him his props by using it in my Flashback Friday post We are only 11 months apart, so as you can see we are almost the same size - I was 15 months here so he was just a little over 2 yrs old! (Just a little side note – for some reason I always thought I look like Elvis Presley in this pic, lol! Little Baby Elvis-Michelle!)

You know how sometimes you’re reliving some childhood memory, & you say to whomever the lucky people are being forced to listen,”Yeah, I always used to —” or “We used to always—” & then your mom or dad gives you that raised brow & says in their “get real” tone of voice: “You did that once.” ??? It’s a system shakeup, I mean, it makes you question your whole belief system! Anyway, relating to today’s Flashback Friday photo, it seems to me that my grandparent’s on my mom’s side took these late afternoon drives on a regular basis, but who knows – I do know I remember this day clearly (pieces of it, anyway); I remember the feel of the warm car hood on my bare little legs, I remember my granddaddy taking the photo (apparently I did not get my photography skills from him – note his huge shadow, lol!), I remember a creek or small river running underneath the bridge (mainly because I wanted to go down to it & my grandmother wouldn’t let me), & I remember looking out the window as we drove & feeling the fresh air on my face. There’s no date on the back of the photo (just the word “Polaroid” marching across it) but I think I was about 7 so that would be 1969. Wish I had the cool maroon Chevy. Wish I had that cute little dress & sweater & shoes for my little granddaughter Savana to wear one day. Wish I had my Grandmama & Pop here to thank for making time to make memories for me.
