Looks like Derrick & I both took our cue from the ugly weather today, but came at it from different angles. It was so gloomy & nasty when I got up this morning, when my eyes landed on these little fellows that we got as souveniers on our trip to Akumal, Mexico last year, I began daydreaming about warm, turquiose-blue waters and sandy beaches. I remembered how charmed I was when we found this whole table filled with hundreds of these little creatures at a little sidewalk shop in Playa de Carmen– their little heads or tails or wings (depending on the animal) bobbing as the shopkeeper expertly bumped the table with her hip to keep the motion going. Ahhhh, Mexico.
Derrick, on the other hand, was compelled to embrace the day’s gloominess. This shot from out our dining room window seems to me to suggest a sadness that the bench exudes, patiently waiting out the rain until a sunny day comes & someone can rest upon it for a moment in the warmth & light.
